February marketing updates are here and we must say, this month includes some insightful updates! If you’re a business owner, it’s so important to stay in the know and have a handle on what’s new online. There are often updates regarding algorithms and new features on a number of different platforms that you don’t want to miss! Let’s check out this month’s updates:
TikTok Reinstated (for now)

If you deleted the app during the ban, you’re in luck, because TikTok is back for the time being! Amid ongoing discussions about its future in the US, TikTok has now been reinstated for download in the app store, after official assurances were received that the app store will not be fined for facilitating access to the technically banned app. This means that TikTok will be fully accessible in the US at least until Trump’s 75-day extension on negotiations runs out. It’s not clear what form of agreement will be made, but Trump has floated various proposals, including one that would see the U.S. government itself taking a stake in the app. For now, post away!
Pinterest Reports Record Usage

We’ve always been Pinterest’s biggest advocate, and this is why! Pinterest has published its latest performance update, which shows that the app reached new highs in both active users and revenue in Q4 of 2024, as it continues on its path towards driving more product discovery.
On the revenue side, Pinterest brought in a record $1.2 billion, taking its annual revenue intake to $3.6 billion in 2024, with an impressive growth rate of 19% for the year as a whole! Pinterest has seemingly worked to keep its sales and marketing spend steady, making the platform a great opportunity for new and existing brands to leverage in 2025.
Instagram Tests “Dislike” Button

Meta is once again trying out a dislike button for comments, this time on Instagram. Their hope is to establish more signals that it can use to downrank comments that users find to be overly negative and/or harmful to their in-app experience. This new feature is not about agreeing or disagreeing with a comment, nor voting down misinformation. It’s more about addressing harmful remarks, which Instagram Chief, Mosseri, says could help to create a “more friendly” environment in the app. We’re interested to see how this continues to evolve!
TikTok Tests Subscription Based Shopping

TikTok is giving a trial run to a new subscription feature for its e-commerce platform, TikTok Shop, similar to Amazon’s subscribe-and-save feature. This new tool allows users to receive products regularly, such as vitamins or snacks, and offers them discounts for recurring purchases. The move could help TikTok Shop compete with Amazon by encouraging consistent shopping on its platform. If you are a product-based brand that is not yet on TikTok Shop, now is the time to leverage this platform!
