Setting goals as we enter a new year can be one of the most exciting, yet intimidating aspects of running a business. On one hand, you’re looking ahead at what’s possible and at the big picture of the brand you’re building. On the other hand, it can be really daunting to set these massive goals for yourself and figure out how you are going to work to hit them!
Creating goals is extremely personal, but the process is one that can be used over and over, no matter which industry you’re in. Let’s take a look!
Look Back on the Past Year
Before looking ahead at 2024, it’s important to take a moment to reflect on the past year. Take a look at all of your achievements, (and celebrate them!), and look into the areas that you thought you would succeed, and didn’t. Doing so allows you to continue with capitalizing on what is already working in your business, and allows you to have a fresh outlook on what may need updated!
Audit Your Services
Regardless of the industry you’re in, the cornerstone of your business is your product/service. Go through each of your services / products offered, and make note of what continues to be profitable in your business, and areas that you need to rethink or let go. Draw from customer feedback, performance metrics, and industry trends. Are there new technologies or approaches that you could integrate? Is there an area of your business that doesn’t exist, but could, and would benefit from gaps in your industry? Get specific with these!
Look Inward, Including Your Team
As a business owner, there’s nothing better than seeing your team thrive. Take a look at the support and systems you have in place. Is everyone excelling in their role? Are new hires being trained efficiently + effectively? Do you have a need for a new position, and if so, do you have the right processes in place to ensure you make the right hire? These are each questions to ask yourself not only at the beginning of a new year, but throughout the year as well!
Your goals for your business are personal and unique to you. With that being said, these three areas are a great place to start, and if you can ask yourself these questions with an unbiased perspective, I think you’ll find any holes in your business and refine the areas in which you excel!
